  Overkill refers to going too far, saying the machine is 'overkill' to kill zombies. Somebody re-captioned it, repeating the message, and overkilling the joke. That's why it's funny. Another example of overkill would be this overly thorough annotation of this pointless picture which is lame and doesn't even contain any hidden faces, black people, or missing fingers.
